Luleå
Luleå, which is located in the county, Norrbotten in Northern Sweden, was an important idustrial center in the late 1800's. There was a lot of iron found in the Kiruna and Gällivara areas. A railroad was built between Luleå and Narvik in Norway. A large iron work was started in Luleå because of the large amount of iron ore. Many people were employed in the ore port in Svartöstaden (a part of Luleå). This resulted in a number of people moving into this area from southern Sweden.
Rosfors Bruk
|
This ironworks made pots, pans, iron stoves, iron crosses for graves, garden furniture, agriculture machines, and iron goods for ships and vessels.
Food production was necessary in order to keep this community in operation. Near the river, there was good land for grazing and haymaking. The dairy farming, which included about eighty cows and eighteen horses remained even after Rosfors closed its iron production in 1875.
