Carl T. Enberg and Emma K. HultCarl Theodor Enberg, the oldest son of Carl Axel Enberg and Kristina Mathilda Lindberg, was born March 12, 1863 in Värmland, Sweden. He emigrated with his family in September of 1871.
Carl Theodor Enberg and Emma K. Hult were married on November 20, 1886, at the Quinsigamond Methodist Church, Worcester Massacusetts by Rev. C. A. Cederberg.
Carl, also known as Charley Enberg, and his wife, Emma, were long time members of the Quinsigamond Methodist Church. Mr. Enberg served as the president of the trustees, secretary of the church board, and mission treasurer. Mrs. Enberg was a member of the Ruth Ladies' Aid Society and Woman's Foreign Missionary Society. Charley Enberg, worked for 52 years at the American Steel and Wire Company, South Works, (previously known as Washburn and Moen), retiring on the first of March 1930. Charley began work in 1876, at the age of 13, as a water boy at No. 1 Billet Mill, where he earned sixty-five cents per day. In 1878 he went to the North Works to work on the old Belgian Rolling Mill. In 1880, Charley returned to the South Works, where he began to learn the trade of machinist. He was made foreman in the Machine Shop in 1886 and for many years had charge of engine repairs. The Machine Shop where he worked was in a brick building which used signal oil lamps for lighting back in the early days of his employment. In 1922, Charley was given lighter duties and worked in the South Works Drafting Room until he retired. In 1936, Mr. and Mrs. Enberg celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and were honored at a reception held at the Methodist Church. They were presented with gifts, and Mrs. Enberg received a bouquet of fifty roses. The roses were presented by Mrs. Enberg's younger sister, Mrs. Axel G. Sandberg (Ellen), who also served as the flower girl at the couple's wedding. "Charley" and Emma K. had one daughter, Emma Irene Enberg, born in Worcester, July 22, 1892. Carl T. "Charley" Enberg died in 1938 at the age of 75. Emma K. (Hult) Enberg died in 1944 at the age of 87. |
